Open Doors: Freedom First
At Brentano, we believe that everyone has the right to freedom, even if you live in a nursing home. With our project Open DoorsWe are taking an important step towards a living environment where freedom, safety, and well-being go hand in hand. We are saying goodbye to closed wards and consciously opting for open doors, supported by smart technology. Before deploying technology, what is desirable and/or necessary is carefully considered for each client with intellectual disabilities.
Why state the obvious?
We want our clients to be able to continue leading their own lives as much as possible. By opening doors, we increase their freedom of movement and independence. This contributes to a higher quality of life, greater well-being, and encourages physical activity.
Our approach
- Freedom is the norm; we organize safety on a tailor-made basis. Everything is done in line with the Care and Coercion Act.
- We work together within a close-knit triangle of clients, loved ones, professionals, and volunteers.
- We support our employees in carefully weighing freedom and safety; decisions are made multidisciplinarily and in consultation with family and loved ones and any other involved parties.
Our ambition
We want to say goodbye to the concept by the end of 2026 at the latest. closed ward. We are making this transition step by step, and we are doing so together with clients, employees, and loved ones.
In 2025, we will have reached an important milestone. On Monday, November 17, 2025 are at location Klaasje Zevenster the doors have been opened. This makes Klaasje Zevenster the first Brentano location where this new way of working has been put into practice.
On our location Nieuw Vredeveld are from Monday, June 30, 2026 the doors opened.
