Together

Making for a nice day together

“Family and loved ones play a central role in the lives of our residents. We know that they share a long history together, and that we, as care professionals, are merely temporary visitors. Every resident is unique, just as every family is.”

Being together, doing things together
We see a lot of loneliness and a lack of meaning and the ability to participate among our residents. All in all, this makes us even more together Wanting to spend time with loved ones, informal caregivers, and other people in the client's/resident's network. Family, friends, old neighbors, and even fellow residents all play a role in making every day a pleasant one. Playing a game, having coffee and a chat, or performing an additional care task—it helps enormously.

Vision on family participation
Of '‘TOGETHER‘Brentano has adjusted its vision on family participation and translated it into activities that align with the future and Brentano's strategic direction. With this renewed vision, we are engaging in and will continue to engage in dialogue with relatives and informal caregivers about how to maintain this role and how we, as healthcare professionals, together to shape person-centered care for our residents with them.

Brentano attaches great value to the role of family members and volunteers, whom we collectively call 'participants'. The national shift from 'caring for' to 'caring with' reinforces our vision: involving the network surrounding the client contributes to a warm welcome and a meaningful old age. Brentano does not wish to make the involvement of the network mandatory (yet), but does strongly recommend it. Moving to a nursing home already has enough impact on the client. If all familiar faces disappear from view as well, it becomes an even greater transition. Brentano aims to continue the home situation in the nursing home, where care, as well as well-being, is well organized by Brentano, in togetherspeech and in togethercooperation with the family.

Caring together for residents/clients with family and loved ones has a positive effect on the well-being and quality of life of the residents/clients. In this arrangement, care from Brentano is responsible for the care tasks, while the family is responsible for the well-being tasks. If there is no or (too) little family available, volunteers can also be deployed for these well-being tasks.

How can you continue to play a central role in the lives of our residents? As a relative or informal caregiver, you can support our residents in many ways. For example: playing games, reading (aloud), physical activities, looking at photos together, making or listening to music, attending appointments with the hairdresser or doctor, cooking, personal care tasks such as brushing teeth, showering, and painting nails, or household tasks such as changing beds, checking the fridge, organizing the wardrobe, and keeping their own room tidy. It can really be anything. From just once a month to regularly on a weekly basis. We are happy to discuss the possibilities with you. This can be done with the participant contact person or EVV staff member in the department, or with the (neighborhood) participation coordinator or advisor.
